Allowed and Prohibited Items
The following items may be brought into the Maldives without incurring customs duty:
- reasonable amount of cigarettes, cigars & tobacco
- reasonable amount of gifts
The following items are not to be brought into the Maldives:
- alcoholic beverages
- animals without a veterinary certificate
- dogs
- drugs
- explosives and weapons
- idols of worship
- pork products and certain other animal products
- pornographic literature
The penalty for importing drugs for personal or other use is life imprisonment.
The following items may not be exported from the Maldives in any form:
- tortoise and turtle shells and products made of turtle shell
- whole black and red corals
- pearls
- oyster shells and their products
