The import of firearms, liquor, drugs and pornography are prohibited. An official license is required for import of alcohol. Alcohol is available in all the resorts and not sold / available in Male’. Dogs, Pigs, and pork products are prohibited. Special permission should be sought to bring the personal pets (dogs not allowed).

Allowed and Prohibited Items

The following items may be brought into the Maldives without incurring customs duty:

reasonable amount of cigarettes, cigars & tobacco
reasonable amount of gifts

The following items are not to be brought into the Maldives:

• alcoholic beverages
• animals without a veterinary certificate
• dogs
• drugs
• explosives and weapons
• idols of worship
• pork products and certain other animal products
• pornographic literature

The penalty for importing drugs for personal or other use is life imprisonment.
The following items may not be exported from the Maldives in any form:

• tortoise and turtle shells and products made of turtle shell
• whole black and red corals
• pearls
• oyster shells and their products
